Mozart, the Dramatist.

Ich werde das jetzt lesen. Und erzähl es dir später.
Vielleicht.

Brophyʼs analysis is richly informed by her readings and interests in psychoanalysis, myth, and relations between the sexes, but her stress above all is on Mozartʼs ʻunique excellenceʼ, his ʻdouble supremacyʼ both as a ʻclassicalʼ and ʻpsychologicalʼ artist. ~Jane Glover, on Mozart the Dramatist: The Value of his Operas to Him, to His Age and to Us, by Brigid Brophy, 1964, 1988.

A quote für den Tag:

Fortunately, both official and popular taste have been outstripped by a group of people (which by now probably includes the majority of serious musicians and serious audiences) who have recognised Mozart as a transcendent case. Some of them will not listen to any operas except Mozart’s. More, and commanding more respect, love both music and opera, and have recognised Mozart not only as the operatic composer but as the composer—perhaps as the artist. ~Brigid Brophy.
